Occasionally clients need gyro-stabilised footage shot from platforms other than aerial platforms.
Aeroptics’ Peter Thompson designed and prototyped a dozen mounts currently in use and manufactured today. Custom-built mounts are all part of our on-going service to customers. We love a challenge.
VEHICLES
VAN
The Queenstown based 4x4 van offers a filming platform that can take the Cineflex into most on-road and off-road situations. The Aeroptics’ ‘Vancam’ is fitted out with monitors in the front seat for the director to use. The Cineflex is fully retractable inside the van for ease during ferry-trips, and can be ready to film within 30 seconds. The Cineflex can also be used whilst inside the van. Shooting forward, a gyro-stabilised shot ‘through the windscreen’ shot can be captured, with driver and passenger in shot if required.
4WD
For more challenging off-road situations the high wheel base of a traditional 4x4 wagon is a better option. Here the vehicle was driven through rock-strewn terrain, with 1-meter high ferns disguising where the rocks were. The image moved with the motion of the vehicle as it drove over the rocks, but the overall image was judder and vibration free.
